LONG TIME ALBANY, NY PHARMACIST
Delray Beach, FL - Harold Kessler, 77 of Delray Beach Fl and formerly of Albany NY, passed away Saturday morning, Jan 8th, 2011. Born in Hudson, NY July 2nd 1933 to the late Isak and Nettie Kessler.
Harold graduated from Hudson High School and came to Albany to attend Albany College of Pharmacy. He opened Kessler's Pharmacy with his brother in law, Sidney Cohen, in 1956. Together they operated a very successful neighborhood pharmacy, across the street from St Peter's Hospital, for close to 30 years. Kessler's Pharmacy was known for providing customers with personal and exceptional service. Harold was behind the counter always willing to answer questions, and to offer a friendly hello. They had a very loyal customer base. Harold married Naomi Vinikoff in 1960. In June 2010 they were fortunate enough to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their close friends and family.
Harold is survived by his loving and devoted wife Naomi. He is the cherished father to his 3 children Caryn (Mark) Poskanzer of Slingerlands, NY, Ellen (Mitchell) Ackerman of Wayne, NJ , and Steven (Diana) Kessler of Chattanooga, TN. He is the adored grandfather "Papa" to Jared, Adam, Noah and Dayna Poskanzer, Meryl, Sam, and Emily Ackerman, & Jamie and Leah Kessler. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
He is also survived by his brothers -in- law - Harold Vinikoff formerly of Troy, NY and Sidney Cohen of Albany, his many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews who affectionately called him "Uncle Heshie" and many dear friends.
Mr. Kessler was predeceased by his sister, the late Rose Kessler Cohen of Albany, NY. He was a long time member of Temple Israel of Albany, and Albany City Lodge # 540, Knights of Pythias. . He enjoyed many warm winters in Florida during his retirement and was a member of the New Generation, and of the F.U. N. N. Y Club. He also volunteered in the pharmacy department at the Delray Beach Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at Temple Anshei Shalom, 7099 West Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 3:30pm. All are welcome to attend
