I had the privilege of interacting with Sylvia for over five years as part of the Schenectady County Public Library's Outreach program. I truly enjoyed this. Sylvia was a voracious reader, with intriguing requests, and always had interesting comments to make. She became a fan of Sue Grafton's alphabet mysteries and read them all, from A is for Alibi to the newest, U is for Undertow (she'd hoped to make it through Z, but the author didn't write quickly enough!). Sylvia was also a true lady. She was gracious in her interactions with others. And, even when her health was failing, she always asked how I was doing and thanked me for coming. I will miss her!

Sylvia was a wonderful neighbor to me and my family. She lived around the corner from us and whenever we saw her we were greeted with a lovely "Hello Neighbor". This greeting continued whenever we saw her at Temple Gates of Gates. Sylvia was a wonderful baker and shared her delicious mandelbrot with us. Unfortunately times moved on and she moved on and then we moved out of town. We have missed her kindnesses and especially her smiles. Having had her in our lives has been a blessing.

Our deepest sympathy to the Lapidus family on the passing of your mother, Sylvia. We worked with Sylvia and Arnold on Temple Gates of Heaven's Leisure Group Steering Committee. It was a joy to work with them and we have many fond memories of our times together. They were such a warm and loving couple and showed interest in everyone in the group. Please know that you are in our warmest thoughts and prayers.
