Obituary of Susan Shpeen

SUSAN SHPEEN 1957-2009 Susan Shpeen at age 52 on Tuesday November 24, 2009 .Born and raised in Birmingham, Michigan the daughter of the late Jerry N. and Saralyn S. Balan, she was a 1979 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Business Administration and later earned her CPA. A twenty five year resident of the Capital District, she was the Executive Director of the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center (SAAJCC) at the time of her death and had served the JCC for 15 years. She was also active for many years in the Congregation Beth Emeth Sisterhood and currently was serving as Vice-President. Susan is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, Rabbi Scott L. Shpeen, Senior Rabbi at Congregation Beth Emeth, Albany, NY; daughter Hilary of Rockville, MD; son Adam of NYC; brother Steven Balan and his wife, Rachel, and children Andrew, Melissa and Joshua, of West Bloomfield, MI. She also was the cherished sister-in-law and aunt to Dr. Stephen and Sharon Shpeen, Samantha and Benjamin, of Voorhees, NJ and Robert and Mariam Shpeen Feist, Jacob and Max, of Cherry Hill, NJ and daughter-in-law of Dr. Harold and the late Judith Shpeen of Marlton, NJ. Funeral Services were held at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road, Albany, NY on Wednesday November 25, 2009.Interment was in the family plot at the Beth Emeth Cemetery on Turner Lane in Loudonville, New York
