Obituary of Claire R. Ruslander

CLAIRE R. RUSLANDER Delmar, NY 1928-2009 Claire R. Ruslander, age 81, of Delmar, NY died on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany surrounded by her loving family. Born August 6, 1928 to Joseph and Blanche Goldowsky Rosenholtz in Port Chester, NY, Claire lived in Troy and graduated Troy Public Schools 2 and 14 and Troy High School, class of 1946. She graduated from Russell Sage College in 1950 having been active in many campus activities, especially theater, having been president of the dramatics association. Claire had many leading roles and went on to act and direct from 1950-1954 with the RPI Players. In 1954 she was a charter member of Albany Civic Theatre where she also acted and directed. She was still active with Troy High School and Russell Sage College reunion committees and was always the toast person at the Russell Sage class events. In 1954 she married Robert K. Ruslander and was active in Parent Faculty Organizations with him, serving as co-president of both the middle and high school PFO. She was very active in community and school activities, a member of Congregation Beth Emeth (where she served on many committees) and its Sisterhood. Her many interests included reading, cooking, knitting and crewel, writing poetry, music, movies and the arts. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren, her son, Michael and his wife, Barbara and their girls, Lindsay and Molly, her daughter, Betsy and her companion, Louie Rizzo, and her son, David and his wife Lisa Vlastelica and their children, Joe, Carly and Glenna. She was the sister of Ann Misenhimer , aunt of Wendy Hill and Brian Segel and his wife, Jamie and was survived by several grand nieces and nephews and great-grand niece and nephew. Services will be held at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road, Albany, NY on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow in the Beth Emeth Cemetery, Loudonville, NY.
