Obituary of Susan Cohen

SUSAN G. COHEN 1942-2009 Guilderland, New York Susan Gersten Cohen died on Tuesday October 13, 2009 at the Albany Medical Center. Born, January 14, 1942, she lived in Guilderland, NY during her adult life. She is survived by her husband, Don Cohen, 3 children, Bonnie Fenner, Amy Wendt and Jeffrey Cohen and their respective spouses, Rick, Steve and Brenda; and grandchildren, Miguel, Marissa, and David Fenner; Joshua and Jessica Murray, and Eden, Regan, Haylen and Taryn Cohen; as well as a brother, Stephen Gersten, a sister, Linda Basinait, and a sister-in-law, Beverly Benno. She is also survived by nieces, Heather, Adina and Dara Benno and nephew Karl Beil. Susan graduated from SUNY at Albany in 1963 and spent her professional career as a mathematics teacher at Guilderland High School. Susan loved life. Over the years she was competitive at tennis, running, swimming and bridge. She volunteered at Independent Living and the Albany JCC and made many friends in each of the these communities. Most of all she was a wife, Mother, Grammy and friend. Susan gave, but more importantly Susan's family, friends, and professional providers gave back in the most caring possible way- all of them. It is to those special individuals who gave and gave that the Cohen family extends their deepest gratitude. Services at the Ohav Shalom Cemetery on Church Road in Guilderland, New York on Thursday October 15, 2009 at 11:00am.Following the graveside service, a gathering of family and friends will be held at Evans Public House on Route 20 across from the Guilderland Town Hall. Those wishing to remember Susan in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Senior Adult Program at the Albany Jewish Community Center, 340 Whitehall Road Albany, New York 12208. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Beverly Benno, 450 West Lawrence Street in Albany( off New Scotland Avenue) on Thursday and Saturday evenings with a service at 7:00pm each of those evenings.
