Obituary of Ruth D. Laven
Ruth Diamond Laven, age 83, of Albany, formerly of the Massry Residence, died Saturday December 20, 2008 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Ruth was born in Albany and was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Albany High School and Mildred Elley Business School. She was married to Raymond Laven for forty eight years until his passing in 1997. Ruth had worked as a legal secretary for many years before joining her husband in his business, Mico Business Products. She later was employed by several small businesses in the Albany area as a bookkeeper.
Ruth was a member of Temple Israel and its Sisterhood as well as a member of the board of directors of the Daughters of Sarah Auxiliary and was a life member of Hadassah. Ruth was a U.J.F. literacy volunteer at Schools #16 and #27, as well as a volunteer for bingo at Temple Israel.
Loving mother of Barbara Laven (Dale Getto) of Albany, and Michael Laven (Buddy Ocker) of Pensicola, Florida. Sister of Milton Diamond and Alvin Diamond. She also leaves nieces, nephews and a special friend of 26 years, Phyllis Pincher.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 1:00pm Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery, in Guilderland, N.Y.
The period of mourning will be observed at the Laven residence, 32 Colonial Avenue, Albany, N.Y., on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Those wishing to remember Ruth in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Raymond and Ruth D. Laven Early Childhood Fund at the Albany Jewish Community Center, 340 Whitehall Road, Albany N.Y., 12208.
