Obituary of Seymour Gluck
Seymour Gluck, age 87 of Niskayuna, NY passed away at his residence on Friday, January 31, 2014.
Born November 1, 1926 in Saratoga Springs, New York to Martin J. and Bettina Sherman Gluck. Sy, as he was known to all, graduated from Nott Terrace High School and was a member of the Union College Class of 1949. He served in the United States Army, and earned his Chartered Life Underwriter License (CLU), working for Metropolitan Life and Massachusetts Mutual. In 1956, Sy married the love of his life, Judith Vallin, and they made their home and raised their family in Niskayuna. Along with his parents and wife, Sy was predeceased by his brother Albert; sister Evelyn Sommer; brother-in-law Edward Sommer; nephew Gary Sommer; brother-in-law Richard Vallin; sister-in-law Marlene Vallin; and, two sons, Jeffrey Gluck and an infant son, David Gluck. Sy was the beloved father of Lori Gluck Murphy (Jim) and Barry Gluck (Penny Plew). Other survivors include Jeff's wife, Elizabeth Berger Gluck, and their daughters Jessica, Caroline and Alexandra; Lori and Jim's daughters Jennifer and Rachel; and Barry and Penny's daughters Melissa and Noelle. Along with his seven adoring granddaughters, Sy leaves behind his nephew Donald Sommer and his wife, Susie; nephew David Vallin; and, niece Allison Vallin Kostovick. He also loved his "granddogs" Chamois and Connor. Sy most recently resided at The Terrace at Glen Eddy in Niskayuna, where friends who made his time there special included Jean Morse, Don Aussicker, Tippy Beyerl and Stella Amiccuci. Among extraordinary caring staff at The Terrace were Lisa Earls, Keemee Joseph, and Diane. Sy was an avid golfer and decades-long member of the Edison, Shaker Ridge and Mohawk Golf Clubs. He also enjoyed the horses at Saratoga, handicapping races each and every summer. But Sy's favorite thing in the whole world was his family, who will miss him dearly.
Services at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street , Schenectady, NY on Monday February 3, 2014 at 11:00am . Interment will follow services at the Agudat Achim Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY. Those wishing to remember Sy in a special way may make a memorial contribution to Union College, 807 Union Street Schenectady, NY 12308. or St. Peter's ALS Regional Center, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Lori and Jim Murphy, 17 Cindy Lane, Clifton Park, NY on Monday following the service of interment and on Tuesday and Wednesday commencing at 7:00pm
