I met Bobbie in 1949, when I was 6 and she was 9. We were next door neighbors in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia. I was shy, and she wasn't. She reached out to me and we became good friends. We played chess and ping pong and talked a lot. Looking back, I think that a pre-teen boy-girl friendship is unusual. But Bobbie was unusual. She was smart and warm and kind and made you comfortable when you were with her. Eventually, Bobbie got more interested in boys her own age. But for four years, she was my best friend.
Fred, thank you for calling me. I have only the warmest memories of Bobbie.
