Richard Krakower

Obituary of Richard Krakower

Richard Krakower passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.  Born September 28, 1930 to the late Albert and Bessie Krakower and raised in Albany, New York, he graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in Construction Engineering, and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.

With pride in his education and a strong work ethic, alongside his wife Eleanor, Dick built a business with many dedicated employees in wholesale building materials.  Obstacles and challenges did not deter him from the success he achieved through honest dealings and customer satisfaction.  Dedicated to community, his passion outside of work was taking on leadership positions in the Masonic Order including the post of District Deputy Grand Master.  In retirement, Dick was president of the Lake George Association to further his commitment to environmental responsibility.  He was as avid fisherman and enjoyed many years sailing on Lake George.   He supported and cheered his grandchildren at many events including baseball, wrestling, swimming, lacrosse, football, track & field, skiing, and dance.

Dick is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 46 years.  Together they built a combined family and enjoyed many graduations, weddings and simchas.  He is also survived by his children Stephen (Judith), Robin (David), Reid (Nancy), Beth (James), Abbie (Chris) and Donna (David),  grandchildren Naomi (Joseph), Jonathan (Reese), Benjamin, Alexandra, Margo, Evan, Kara, Eliza, Emily, Ian, Isaac and Nora, and great grandchildren Ethan and Rose, who were blessed to spend many warm occasions with their “Poppy.”

Dick was able to sustain his active life with the help of dedicated care givers at the V.A. Hospital.  In the zenith of his life, he was fortunate to have the support and care of Community Hospice, and Drs. Julie Philips and  Robert Busch.
