Arleen Farber

Obituary of Arleen Farber

Arleen (Polise) Farber – Mechanicville, NY

Arleen Harriet (Polise) Farber peacefully passed in her home on Friday, September 7, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 4, 1947, she was the beloved daughter of Morris and Lee (Kramer) Polise and cherished younger sister to Michael.

A blind date set the course for marriage and a lasting love between Arleen and Jack Farber, who too early passed away in 1998. Arleen and Jack would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary this year. Together, Jack and Arleen moved to Seaford and then Mt. Sinai, Long Island in the early 1970s where they raised their four children and in the mid-1980s opened a pharmacy in Shoreham, NY.

A graduate of Queens College and Stony Brook University, Arleen worked as a substitute teacher and, later, as an investigator for the Suffolk County Child Support Enforcement Bureau. Her greatest and most enjoyable roles, though, were being wife and mom. After retirement, Arleen moved to Mechanicville, NY to live near her two daughters and their families.

Arleen possessed the unmatchable ability to induce laughter and have a sincere, enjoyable conversation with anyone, anywhere, about anything, enabling her to make wonderful friends wherever she lived or traveled. Arleen is known for traveling well, including visits to Cuba, Iceland, Costa Rica and other destinations. In just her last year, Arleen treated her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren to a trip to Rocking Horse Ranch - a 70th birthday gift to herself, she traveled to Israel with daughter, grandsons, and a dear friend, and she enjoyed a colorful journey to Russia with one of her closest friends.

Arleen is already missed by her four children, their spouses, and eight grandchildren: Stacey Farber and Ian Kudel, Jakob and Hayden; Evan and Amanda (Maiorana) Farber, Jack and Dean; Karyn (Farber) and Justin Lefco, Mariana and Elena; Brian Farber and Kate Dodson, Will and Lila. She is survived by her loving brother, sister-in-law, and nephews, Michael, Charlotte, Jason and Eric Polise, as well as her sister- and brother-in-law, nephew, and grandnephew, Regina, Alan, Scott, and Sam Cooper. She was predeceased by her caring niece, Judie Cooper.

The family wishes to thank her Rabbis Eleanor Pearlman and Matthew Cutler of Congregation Gates of Heaven, Schenectady, for their kindness, compassion, memories, and laughter, as well as Yossi Rubin, Chabad, Clifton Park for prayer and compassionate ear. The family is also grateful for the caring, dedicated home health aides from Interim HealthCare, Glens Falls and the Hospice Saratoga staff who gave Arleen great care and comfort during her final weeks.

Friends and family are welcome to attend funeral services on Wednesday, September 12 at 1pm at Congregation Gates of Heaven in Schenectady, NY or on Thursday, September 13 at 12:30pm at Star of David Memorial Chapels in West Babylon, NY. A private burial service for immediate family will take place following the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers or food, donations may be made in Arleen’s memory to Congregation Gates of Heaven, Schenectady, NY or a charity of your choice.
