Obituary of Richard Steven Seiden

 

 

Richard S. (Dick) Seiden, 80 of Colonie, NY passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving and caring family.  Richard was born in Albany and was a lifelong resident. He attended Albany Public Schools, Siena College and graduated from the New York School of Interior Design. Dick had been the owner and operator of Richard Seiden Interiors in Albany where he designed and decorated many homes and businesses throughout the Capital District.  He was listed in the prestigious Who’s Who in Interior Design.  He was very active with many community organizations in the Capital District including B’nai B’rith where he served as President for 12 years. He had been the recipient of the Chapter President’s Award in 2006. Richard had served as a Director and Officer of the B’nai B’rith Parkview Apartments on Hudson Avenue in Albany. He also served as Director and House Chairman for the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center.  Richard and his wife Roberta were recipients of the Albany Jewish Community Center Pillars Award. Over the course of his professional career, Richard was the recipient of many professional awards.  He had also been a former officer and director of the American Society of Interior Designers, Upstate Chapter. Richard served as the first, chairman, coordinator for the Vanguard Show house and received the CDPC Resource Center Volunteer Award where he established the Sharon Stein Memorial Art Gallery in memory of his daughter. Other awards include advice décor from St, Josephs Provincial House, Sage College for serving as advisor and establishing the Richard Seiden Interiors Annual Student Award, and as an Interior Design Judge for the showcase of homes.  Dick was also recognized by Temple Beth El in Troy for his volunteering and decorating, and by Daughters of Sarah for decorating the lobby of their facility. Nonprofessionally, Richard served as officer and director for the Aids Council of NENY and was President of the Colonie PTA. Richard was also on the executive committee of the 65 Roses Gala for Cystic Fibrosis in Saratoga He was a 50-year member of Albany City Lodge # 540 Knights of Pythias as well as BPOE. # 49. Richard was recognized with awards from Camp Good Days and Big Brothers of Albany. Richard was also a longtime member of Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany where he served on the House and Cemetery Committees.

 

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Roberta Cohen Seiden, his devoted daughters ,Terri Seiden of Santa Monica, California and Melinda Seiden of Glenmont, New York. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Sasha Rose and Samuel Joseph Stein and was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Seiden Stein and his brother, Fred Seiden.

 

 

Services at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany, NY on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 2:00pm. The family will be receiving friends from 1 to 2 pm. Interment will be private. Those wishing to remember Richard in a special way may make a memorial contribution to Community Hospice or a charity of your choice.
