Obituary of Ian R. Arcus
Ian Richard Arcus, 63, of Delmar, New York, passed away on June 2, 2013 in the comforting presence of family.
Ian is survived by his wife Lorraine of 40 years; his three children, Rachel F. Arcus-Goldberg and her husband Jeremy, Shira B. Arcus, and Josh D. Arcus and his fiancée Shira Kapito; his grandson Hershel S. Arcus-Goldberg as well as siblings, Arnie Arcus of Florida, Michael Arcus of Colorado, Roberta Dash of Florida and Susan Kamich of New Jersey.
Ian was born in New York, New York on July 20, 1949. He grew up in Hudson, New York. He graduated from University of Rochester and Albany Law School.
Ian practiced as a family law attorney and was a leader in the New York State Law Guardian Association. He also worked for many years as council to State Senator Jack Perry from Rochester. He served on the board of Jewish Family Services for many years and had been Past President. Ian initiated a program that assisted with supervised visitation in custody situations. He was an avid golf and tennis player. He was a founding member of the Capital District Poker and Talmud club. Ian was also a member of Temple Israel in Albany and had been Past Vice President at one time. He had been chairman of the religious services committee at Temple Israel and had also served on the National Board of Camp Ramah. He loved reading and learning and especially loved history.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Temple Israel, 600 New Scotland Avenue, Albany, New York. Burial will follow the funeral at the Temple Israel Cemetery.
Donations in Ian's memory can be made to Jewish Family Services or the charity of your choice. The period of mourning will be observed at the Arcus residence, Tuesday evening, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 1-5pm with a minyan each evening at 7:00pm.
