Obituary of Bertha Susman
Bertha Scher Susman, age 91, lifelong Albany, NY resident died on Sunday morning, May 5, 2013 at her residence. Bertha graduated from Albany High School, Albany Business College, and attended Russell Sage College. She attended classes at the New York Art Students League, art classes at SUNY Albany, St. Rose College and at one time had a one woman art show and exhibit. She was an avid reader, and had a thirst for knowledge including history and politics. Her passions were art, music and writing poetry. Bertha was retired from the NYS Health Dept. Laboratories and Research where she was a medical secretary to the Director of Anatomic Pathology for 20 years. After retirement she enjoyed planning lunches with the Koffee Klotchers since 1970. Volunteering was a great part of Bertha's life. At age 16, she volunteered with Junior Hadassah, and continued with many various organizations over the years. Bertha was decorating chairman for Brandeis Women, Associated of Blind, Congregation Beth Emeth, Hadassah. Bertha was a literacy volunteer at several schools, the longest time was as proof reader and editing stories for 17 years with the Helderberg Neighborhood Association.
Bertha was married to Milton H. Susman until his passing.in 1992. She is survived by her loving children, a daughter, Annette Susman- Smith of Albany and a son, Ron Susman also of Albany. Cherished grandmother of Gabriel Smith (Luz Ramirez), Devon Smith (Dannie Waldron) and Lance Susman.She also leaves loving nieces and nephews from California and Albany as well as many loving and devoted friends. In addition to her husband, Milton, she was predeceased by her parents, Rebecca and Michael Scher as well as 4 brothers and 1 sister.
