So sorry for your loss. Mr. Kerman had a profound effect on my life after high school.

I remember Sharon and I bringing our children to Hy's store on main street. He always delighted in my children. But he wasn't just a store merchant - he was a friend who always had advice, and always understood, and welcomed me just for a chat. He and Sylvia were special people, and are missed. I am so sorry we're unable to make it to the funeral. I have nothing but good memories of Hy.

Mr. Kerman was my 9th grade Social Studies teacher at Poughkeepsie High School (1976-77). I remember him as a teacher who challenged our preconceived notions (or reference set) he had us read Mao's little red book which at first I thought was odd and then was brave. He had a different childhood that most of our teachers and his students benefited from that. My condolences.

I had the good fortune to have Mr. Kerman as a teacher at Poughkeepsie High School. Many years later I met Mr. Kerman again in his store on Main St. Pok., where we became friends. I visited him often at the store. He was a brilliant, informed, gentleman. He will be missed.
