Obituary of Edwin L. Cohn
Albany- Edwin L. Cohn, 88 of Albany, NY passed away Aug. 12, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Schenectady, NY on May 7, 1924, he was the son of the late Myer and Mollie Cohn. Ed proudly served his country in World War II from late 1942 through the end of the war in Europe. He served as a member of the U. S Army in both the Artillery Corp and Corp of Engineers. He started in North Africa through Sicily, France, Germany and ending in Austria. At the end of the war, he was fortunate to return home and marry his high school sweetheart, Roberta Okun in 1946. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage, filled with many wonderful family events, travels and happy occasions. In her later years as Roberta's health failed, Ed cared solely for his wife with incredible patience, devotion and love, until her recent passing on Dec. 15, 2011.
Upon his return from WWII, Ed continued to operate his late father's business, Myer Cohn, Inc. Wholesale Fruits and Produce out of the Menands Markets. After that Ed owned, operated, and managed multiple grocery businesses in the capital region for over fifty years, and was well known and respected by many in the community. He deeply enjoyed talking and visiting with family and friends, talking about his happy childhood memories and statistics about his adored NY Giants, Mets and Knicks. He always took a deep interest in everyone he met, and will forever be remembered for his kind and caring spirit.
Ed is survived by his adoring children, Sanford (Robin) Cohn, Donna (Bernard) Zlochower, his grandchildren, David (Breanna) Cohn, Lisa (James) Husserl, Amanda (Michael) Rose, Garett Neufeld, great-granddaughter Cecile Rose Husserl, and his soon to arrive great-granddaughter in September, and great-grandson in November, his brothers Gerald (Sandra) Cohn, of Boca Raton, FL, Morton (Iris) Cohn of Commack, LI, and the late Robert Cohn of Lake Worth, Fl, sister-in-laws Mildred Paul of Rancho Mirage, CA, Lisa Cohn of Lake Worth, Fl, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Memorial services and a celebration of Ed's life will be held at 1pm on Friday, Aug. 17 at the Desmond Hotel on 660 Albany-Shaker Road in Albany, NY.
