Obituary of Helen Scherzer

 

Helen Rosen Scherzer, age 86 of the Avila Community in Albany, NY died on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Albany, Helen was the daughter of the late Hyman and Mollie Fribush Rosen.  She  was a graduate of the Albany Public Schools and was also a graduate of Plattsburgh State Teachers College.  She taught elementary school in Public Schools 19, 20 & 26 in Albany for several years.  Helen was the co-owner of Rosen’s Uniforms on Central Avenue in Albany, formerly Rosen’s Department Store which was established by her family in 1929.  She was a member of Congregation Beth Emeth.  Helen was also a member of the Albany Jewish Community Center and was a previous member of their board of directors.  She enjoyed swimming, mahjong and bridge.

 

 

Helen was married to Harvey Scherzer until his passing in 1992.  Loving mother of Karen Krakat and her husband George of Albany, Robert Scherzer and his wife Judith of Lexington, MA and Adrienne and her husband Doug Nadoraski of Albany.  Sister of Eleanor Krakower and her husband Richard of Bolton Landing, NY and Herbert Rosen and his wife Clare of Warrington, PA.  Grandmother of Jonathan (Rebecca) Krakat, Jessica Krakat, Alex and Jamie Scherzer.  Great grandmother of Anya and Owen Krakat.

 

Services at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road, Albany, NY on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 12:00 pm.  Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery, Guilderland, NY.  Those wishing to remember Helen in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Scherzer Family Aquatic Center at the Albany Jewish Community Center, 340 Whitehall Road, Albany, NY 12208.
