Obituary of Charles Kapner, Jr.
Charles Kapner, Jr, age 99, of Albany died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital. Charles was born in East Orange, NJ on April 29, 1917. Charles moved to Albany from Brockton, MA in 1925 with his parents, Charles and Bessie, his sister, Alma and two brothers, Jerome and Arthur, all of whom predeceased him. He graduated from Albany High School in 1934 and Albany Business College in 1936. In later years he served as President of Temple Beth Emeth Brotherhood.
Charles was an eagle scout and spent many enjoyable years as a scout and in scout camps. He served in World War II as a radio operator with the 87th Infantry Division in Europe, receiving a bronze star and 3 battle stars.
In 1941 he started working for Star Textile and Research and retired as Vice President-Treasurer in 1982. In 1953 he met Florence and her daughter Betsy through Star plant manager, Hy Stein, Brother-in-law to Florence. They were married in 1954 and had a wonderful, happy and loving life. They spent 18 years of winter retirement in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Hilton Head Island, until Florence came down with Alzheimer’s disease. She passed away in 2011.
Charles is survived by his much loved daughter, Betsy and several nieces and a nephew.
His cremains will be in interred in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY along side Florence.
