Obituary of Salo J. Steper
Salo Steper, 73 of Albany died on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born in Brooklyn,he was the son of the late Markus and Klara Krochmal. Mr.Steper was a loyal New Yorker for many years but came to love Albany. He studied economics at the City College of New York .He had been employed as a computer programmer for the NYS Insurance Fund for many years. Salo was an active member of Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob where he led a daily Talmud study group. He had a wide knowledge of Judaism and World History. Mr.Steper was instrumental in assisting some of the Russian immigrants in the Capital District and many others usually anonymously.
Salo was a charitable, kind and caring man and always saw the good in everyone.
He is survived by his loving wife, Johanna Knoblauch Steper. Two close cousins survive as well, Liane Feuer and Helen Klein.He also leaves his extended special family, Michael and Jamie Masters, Natasha and QuiJanae Frazer and JaMel Royall.
Services at Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob, 380 Whitehall Road in Albany on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Beth Abraham Jacob Cemetery on Western Avenue in Guilderland, NY. Those wishing to remember Salo in a special way may make a memorial contribution to Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob or Maimonides Hebrew Day School, 404 Partridge Street Albany, NY 12208.
