Obituary of Lillian Goldfarb
GOLDFARB
Lillian Zellinger Goldfarb, 95 of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany died on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the nursing home surrounded by her five sons. Born in Schenectady, to Hyman and Anna Zellinger, the family resided in Schenectady for many years. While in high school, Lil was voted the most beautiful there. .Lil married Leonard Goldfarb and together they raised 5 sons, while operating the Goldfarb's New York Supermarket on South Pearl Street in Albany. Lil worked hard her entire life. She was a stay at home mom, with 5 active boys. When the children were older, she and Len bought property which she not only managed, but painted, cleaned and kept in descent repair. She loved fashion; she’d find bargains and looked like a million dollars with her choices and her natural beauty. She and her best friend and Sister Rose were frequent Macy’s shoppers. They were also known as sun worshippers. They would sit in the sun with their aluminum visors catching all the rays. Lil also enjoyed going to estate sales.. She would buy her treasures and then place them in her home to show her decorating skills. Lil had been employed for 27 years by the Albany County Family Court. While working in that capacity she was very pleased that she was able to learn all the computer skills that went along were her position. For many years she would leave one job and then work in her son Marvin’s store for him so he could go home for dinner.
Lil lived in an unusually loving neighborhood. Everyone on Pinehurst Avenue in Albany loved her. While enjoying the sun, Lil was always checked on by her neighbors and her family stopped by often. When time took its toll, Lil had to leave her beloved home and move into Daughters of Sarah. She received good care and was not unhappy to be there. As a sign of her parenting, her sons were constant even daily visitors always supplying her with goodies she loved such as candy, muffins, and donuts.
Lil was married to Leonard Goldfarb until his passing in 2002. She is survived by her loving sons, Marvin and his children, David, Rick and Stacy, Ronnie and his children, Fred and Colleen as well as his late son, Gino of blessed memory, Richie and his daughter Jackie, Garry and his children, Robbie and Josh and Mark and his daughter, Cara. She also leaves her daughter in laws, Margie, Sue, Polly and Mary as well as her former daughters in law, Sabrina and Sandi and 12 great grandchildren.. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose Sherman and Esther Melitzer as well as a brother, Phillip Zellinger.
