Obituary of Evelyn Segel

Evelyn Kahn Segel, age 91 of the Beverwyck Community in Slingerlands died on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at her residence. Born in Albany, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Meyer and Bertha Belkin Kahn. Evelyn was married to Raymond Segel until his passing in 2006. Loving Mother of Kenneth (Nancie) Segel and Burton (Teresa) Segel. Cherished grandmother of Dan Segel, Naomi Bappe (Adam), Julie Hindman (Benjamin) and Amie Segel. Great grandmother of Ava Bappe. Sister of Marvin Kahn (Vera of blessed memory). Evelyn was predeceased by her brother, Arnold Kahn (Sarah of blessed of memory). She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Albany, and she had a wealth of knowledge about anything or anyone related to her hometown. She was a social-butterfly and loved talking to people, but even more so, she loved helping people. She was a generous member of and contributor to many charities including Hadassah and JNF. The true loves of Evelyn’s life were her four grandchildren. She absolutely adored them and couldn’t see enough of them; but when her great granddaughter Ava came into this world, she needed to see her almost daily. So of course 90 year old Evelyn learned to FaceTime so that she could see her Ava in Colorado on a daily basis! Evelyn was more than just the Segel family matriarch; she was the Bubbe glue that kept our family together, happy and fed! She was an incredibly loving, kind and generous woman, friend and role model. A dignified member of the Jewish community, she opened her heart to all - the ultimate caretaker and nurturer, everyone she touched will undoubted miss her immensely. Services will be held at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue in Albany on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow services in the Hebrew Tailors Cemetery on Western Avenue in Guilderland, NY.The period of mourning will be at the home of Nancie and Ken Segel following interment on Tuesday and on Wednesday and Thursday from 6:30 PM to 9 PM. Contributions may be made to the Jewish National Fund 78 Randall Avenue Rockville Center, NY 11570 in Evelyn’s memory or a charity of your choice
