Obituary of Katherine D. Cohen

Monday, March 23, while receiving care at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn, Katherine Dee Englander Cohen of Guilderland, N.Y. passed peacefully after a brave fight with illness. Katherine leaves behind many devoted family members and close friends. Katherine is survived by her devoted husband, James Cohen, daughter, Susan Cohen, her fiancé Paul Czwakiel, son, David Cohen, his fiancé, Ronie Nevo and son, Michael Cohen. Katherine is also survived by her sister, Peggy Englander Stark, and brothers Paul Englander and Peter Englander. Katherine touched many lives through her years of teaching at Albany High, her prolific and exceptional art and beautiful jewelry, her writing of a 260 page memoir, "Mom, are You Listening”, her one woman plays and many poems and an essay which she read on NPR, her variety of acting roles and her active involvement in advocacy for the disabled. There will be a memorial service to honor Katherine’s exceptional life on Monday, March 30th at 11a.m. at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road, Albany, NY In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Katherine Dee Cohen's Memorial Fund, Wildwood Foundation in care of Lauren Roeker, 2995C Curry Road Extension, Schenectady, New York 12303-2801.
