To the Gross family,
I am deeply sorry for your loss. I worked with Dan at Friendlys, the hot dog cart in Troy, Ihop and at OSC. Dan and I grew very close and he taught me so much. He gave me the nickname professor but I would tell him all the time that he was the one who was teaching me so much. He was an extremely hard worker and I will miss our deep conversations that we would have. RIP Dan I will never forget you!!

I had the opportunity to work with Dan when he was an intern in the policy office of the State Comptroller's office. Dan was very well spoken, well informed and always interested in learning. We had some great conversations about public policy and government. After he finished his internship, he kept in touch about his career developments. I never wanted to work with another intern because I knew no one would come up to Dan's standards.

Back when we're younger, Dan was undisbutably the most fun in the neighborhood. Whether it was building forts, making movies or waging guerrilla warefare against the next neigborhood over, his imagination outranked the rest of ours. We would beg Dan to play with us because he literally took whatever we were doing and made it exciting. I was fortunate enough to not only know Dan but know him during that time my childhood, when all the older kids were larger than life figures and being the youngest, I would crane my neck in order to look up in awe. He had a hand in making many of my most cherished childhood memories and I'm crestfallen by the fact that I'll never be able to say thank you.
My condolences go out to the Gross family, who would answer the phone, answer the door, and let me in, giving the opportunity for Dan to touch my life and the lives of everyone else in the neighborhood. Dan was a wonderful human being and we will all miss him greatly.

Dear Sue Jim Jack and Mary
Our hearts are broken for you all. We are just heartbroken over the loss of your Dan. Not a moment has passed these past few days we haven't been thinking of you all. The sorrow you must be feeling is unimaginable.
I remember when you moved to loudonville and how our four children Charles Julian "our "Jack junior" and daughter Katherine hit it off right away with your three children Dan "your Jack" and daughter Mary. I remember all the good times they had in the park playing football or baseball or climbing trees. Trick or treating together and riding the bus to school together. Building snowman and forts. So many happy memories. They were always at our house or your house swimming or playing video games.
Dan was such a polite intelligent young man and quick witted. I remember him running the Shaker track too.
After reading the condolences it is clear as a young adult Dan influenced touched many in a positive way. Katherine Fallon and Jerry Underwood

Dan was a year younger than me at SUNY Potsdam. He was a really great guy and I always enjoyed having philosophy classes with him. He had a wonderful mind and was a real role model for other younger philosophy students. We traveled to Oneonta for several Philosophy conferences and he always gave sensible, well thought critiques. I will miss him very much.

I was absolutely devastated to hear the news, my thoughts are with Dan's family and friends at this difficult and heartbreaking time. Dan was one of the smartest, most empathetic, and benevolent peopIe I have ever had the good fortune to know. Living together in college along with two other close friends of ours remain some of my fondest memories - all of us at 38 Pierrepont had such an incredible time together. The world is a vastly darker place with his absence - his gifts, talents, and passions were a blessing to anybody who came in contact with him in any capacity. I have had no room in my thoughts for anything or anyone else since I heard the news. I'll never forget you, Donald. May your memory live on in the hearts of all those whose lives you touched and ameliorated. Thank you for your help and support when I was going through a difficult time in my life; if only I could have been there for you. I love you brother, be at peace.

Dear Jim, Sue, Jack and Mary:
We are heartbroken at the loss of Danny. We have so many great memories of Danny through the years. He was the first baby of all the cousins on our side, so that made him extra-special! We will always remember the time he spent at our house when he was the "big kid" at age 10. I am so glad I got to see Danny and spend time with him at Rosh Hashanah last year. I loved his unique perspective on things. There are no words I can say to ease your pain, but I hope the love of family and the memories of Danny will carry you through these days.
With much love,

The Department of Philosophy at SUNY Potsdam, students, faculty and staff, were stunned by the tragic news of Dan's passing. He was an integral part of our family, someone who we looked forward to watching grow and flourish, and we are all heart-broken at having lost him. Dan was an exceptional human being, and we are all diminished by his passing. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this trying time, but Dan will live on as we recollect all of the little things he did to make our lives a bit brighter and more rewarding. Thanks, Dan. May you rest in peace.

Dan and I have been friends since high school. He was one of the greatest human beings I have ever encountered in my short time on this Earth. He was filled with joy and laughter, and always knew how to put a smile on everyone's face that was in the room. I am heartbroken that he was taken from us so soon- Dan was one of the good ones. I will miss him greatly and will always have a special spot in my heart for our cherished memories; I will never forget all of the good times singing along to The Grateful Dead or dancing to the Disco Biscuits. My heart goes out to his family and friends in this time. Nothing can take away the sadness that everyone is feeling in this time of loss, but we have all gained an amazing angel to watch over us.
