Obituary of Joseph A. Globerson

JOSEPH GLOBERSON 1917-2011 Joseph Globerson-93 passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospice, Albany, NY. He was born in Schenectady, NY, the son of the late Isadore and Elsie Globerson, and brother to the late William Globerson and Vivian Golub. Shortly after graduating Albany H.S. in 1935, at age 19, he met his wife-to-be, Vivian Marks, while playing clarinet and sax in a band in Upstate, NY. He obtained a scholarship and began studying Engineering at RPI. Those plans changed however, when he was drafted into the Army in World War II. After briefly serving in the Infantry, he studied Navigation and upon graduation, he was promoted to Captain, serving as a navigator with cargo planes. After the war he became a food merchant, first with the R & R Food Outlet in Cohoes, NY, and eventually the co-owner of Globe Food Warehouse on Quail St., in Albany, with his brother, Bill and father, Isadore Globerson. After his father and brother passed away, he managed the Warehouse until shortly after his wife, Vivian passed away in 1984, when he then sold the business. In 1985 he married Irene Sumburg and resided in Schenectady for a number of years, until he moved first to The Alterra House, then The Massry, then remaining at the Nursing Home at Daughters of Sarah until his final illness. He loved classical music and visits from his family. Early in his retirement he enjoyed volunteering at Ellis Hospital. He was married for 42 years to Vivian (Marks) Globerson,(deceased-Jan1984); Survived by 3 children-Jon Globerson, Mark Globerson, and Diane (Globerson) Hoenzsch; Married 25 years to Irene (Sumberg) Globerson; Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Services at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center-180 Washington Ave. Extension-Albany, NY. Wednesday January 19, 2011-10:00AM. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, NY.
