Batya Hefter (Beth Miller) posted a condolence

Dear David, I can't tell you how sorry I was to hear about your father's death. I continue to picture him in his Saratoga camp, welcoming us to come in with his warm, good humored, openness. Herzl and I and all of our children enjoyed spending time with him on our occassional visits. He was always so warm and welcoming not to mention interesting to talk to - always up to date on so many things. It is hard to believe that this time has come to pass, that we have arrived at this age where our parents are truly aging. Your father was one of those people who was never old, so youthful and always ready to have a good time and enjoy the moment. You have been blessed to come from a healthy home with two very special loving parents. I am sure that this is a very great loss for you. Please extend my most sincere condolences to your wonderful mother and your symblings. My regards as well to Sue. I hope that in time the positive memories, along with your family will offer you comfort. My thoughts are with you, Batya (Hefter) Cynthia's daughter (Beth Miller)

Mannie was always a kind, considerate and warm person who made working at DOT much more than an ordinary office. Even after retirement he found the time to enjoy the company of former colleagues. He was large in stature and in character. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for his passing. Bernie Heller

To Anita and all of Mannie's family- I was sad today to read of Mannie's death on Friday. He was a kind and gentle extraordinary man for whom I have enormous admiration and respect. If it were not for Mannie, I would likely not have become an Administrative Law Judge. While working as an attorney for DOT in 1980, I interviewed with Mannie for an ALJ opening in his office. I changed hats, becoming an ALJ, and for many years worked for Mannie and benefitted from his knowledge, experience and advice. He was a wonderful mentor. All these years later, I, too, recently retired as DOT's Chief ALJ. Mannie often spoke of his family, of whom he was so proud, and I send my sincere condolences to you all at this difficult time. Peter
