Obituary of Daniel Dow

DANIEL DOW 1922-2011 Daniel Dow, "PaPa" former resident of Cohoes NY,88 passed away Sunday January 9th 2011 in York SC, where he moved 6 years ago to be near his family. Mr. Dow was born Aug 17, 1922 in NYC to Jewish Immigrants Abe & Pauline Yudowitz . He was the brother of the late Edward Dow. Mr. Dow enlisted in the US Army in 1942 serving our Country in World War II, receiving a Honorable discharge in "1946". Daniel was married to his late loving wife Sylvia Elkin Dow for 49 years. He was employed by the Federal Government, US Dept of Commerce, Maritime Administration. He managed the transportation & communications of the US Reserve Fleet, on the Hudson River, and James River in VA. He retired from the Federal Government in 1973 and relocated his family to Albany NY. Mr Dow was employed by the State of NY in the Purchasing Dept., until he retired in "1987". He enjoyed his years of retirement, bowling, square dancing, traveling and meeting new friends. He especially enjoyed watching the NY Yankees baseball games with his Son Alan. Most of all he loved spending time with his two grandsons Josh & Zack. He was a loving devoted husband, father, brother and PaPa. All of us who loved him will miss his humor, generosity, wisdom and easy going loving attitude. The book of Psalms: "So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (Psalm 90:12) Mr. Dow is survived by his son, Alan & his wife Karen Dow of York, SC. His grandsons Joshua and Zachary Dow of York, SC ,his brother Herbie and his sister in law Helen Dow of Parkland FL. and two nieces, Irva and Rhonda. Services at the Beth Abraham Jacob Cemetery Western Avenue Guilderland, NY on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the convenience of the family.
