Obituary of Bernard Streifer
BERNARD STREIFER
1920-2010
Bernard Streifer, 90, of Clifton Park, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 25, 2010. He was born on June 24, 1920 and spent his childhood in New York, California and Philadelphia. After his military duty in the Army during WWII, he married the love of his life, Bess Lampert. After several years in NYC, they settled in Massapequa Park, where they raised their two sons. During those years, Bernie was employed as a supermarket manager and later as director of the Hempstead Housing Authority. Upon retirement, Bernie and Bess moved to the greater Albany area, where they spent many happy years prior to Bess losing her courageous battle with cancer in 1998.
Bernie developed a special relationship with Lillian Insel and they remained together for ten years prior to her death last year.
Bernie is survived by his children: Philip Streifer and wife Janet of Bristol, CT, and Robert Streifer and companion Frank Benedetto of Saratoga, NY. He also leaves two grandchildren: Lauren Streifer of Ashland, NH and Jeremy Streifer and wife Bailey of Beaverton, OR.
The family would like to thank Bernie's very special caregivers and friends: Heather DeLaMater of Scotia, NY, Bob VanAlstyne of Schenectady, NY, the staff at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home and the caring Hospice staff.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue in Albany on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 11:00am Interment will follow in the Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville, NY In lieu of flowers, donations to The Community Hospice of Saratoga would be welcomed.
