Dear Goldberg Brothers: My brothers and I were sorry to hear about your Mom. I always thought of your Mom (and Dad) as warm, genuine and classy. My mother cherished her friendship with Iola, who was a wonderful friend. Sincerely, Les Apple

As the Volunteer Coordinator at Capital Repertory Theatre I came to know Iola very well and was always in awe that she seemed to know and be loved by every patron that walked in our doors. Her kind smile and fabulous sense of humor seemed to push the other volunteers around her to have the same kind of positive attitude. She was so kind and warm, always asking about my family, checking up on me during my pregnancy, and thrilling at the stories of my baby girl. I quickly came to love Iola as a volunteer and even more so as my friend. My deepest condolences to her family. Iola will be missed, not only as a volunteer at Capital Rep, but by my family as well.

To the Goldberg Family, I considered Iola one of those very special people who stand apart from others. I was always happy to run into her at arts events, where she greeted me with the warmest smile imaginable and of course hugs and kisses. This happened often and, as I recall, quite recently. Now I know that was the last time, and I'm saddened by it. My heart goes out to all of you. With love, david

Iola was such a bright spot to me at Capital Rep, ever since I started my tenure as Artistic Director in 1995. One of the first phone calls I ever received was from Iola. She pleaded with me to keep her subscriber seats open for a year, while she continued to grieve, but reminded me that she would be back and wanted those seats! I think I fell in love with her at that moment. Throughout the years that followed, Iola became one of our most cherished volunteers. Always a good word -- never a complaint about her failing health -- always thinking of others - always so proud of all of her children and grandchildren. She will truly be missed by all of us at the theatre. I send you my warmest regards and deepest sympathy.

Dear Eugene, Adam and Russell, I was saddened to read the obituary of your Mom's passing. My mother and father (Vivian and Alan Mendelsohn) were good friends with your parents back when they all lived in Troy. Iola was also my Godmother. I write on behalf of my Mom and myself to extend our deepest sympathies for your loss. Iola was greatly loved and she will be missed. Karen Mendelsohn

Dear family of Iola Goldberg, I was very sorry to hear of Iola's passing. Iola was on Siena's Creative Arts Committee during the nineties, whose purpose it was to promote the creative arts at Siena by suggesting, planning and supporting creative arts fundraisers and discussing and planning other possible projects of community interest. Iola worked diligently to make the Celebrity Reviews and other musicals great successes. When Fr. William McConville, OFM, Siena's President whom she greatly admired, was getting ready to leave Siena, Iola practically took over to see that his going-away reception would be an evening to remember. Iola was very knowledgable about art. When Siena's Library Director received an extensive and valuable collection of art from one of his patrons, she was asked to make the decisions as to which piece of art should be placed in the different areas of the library. Iola was a delight to know. Not only was she talented, she had a great sense of humor. She always thought about everyone else and how she could be of service. She will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.
