Obituary of Abraham Kaplan

Albany, New York Abraham (Duke) Kaplan, 93 passed away peacefully on October 17, 2010 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 9, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY to his parents Aaron Kaplan and Gussie Kaplan Larner. Duke graduated from Philip Schuyler High School in Albany and began a career in sales. He was well known for over forty years of serving the community in the jewelry business, but most of all for his charm, his wit and his unmatched caring for everyone he met. Duke is survived by his family that adored him and enjoyed all of his many jokes and stories; including his beloved wife of 63 years , Marilyn Obodov Kaplan, son Arthur ( Andrea) Kaplan, daughter Charlotte ( Jeffrey) Sperber, wonderful Zadie to his grandchildren Bryan ( Stephanie) , Lauren, Ashley, Danielle and Brett and special Zadie to great grandchild Brody. He is also survived by his loving sister Ethel Kagan and his sistet-in-law Zelma Israel. He was pre- deceased by his brothers Julius Kaplan, Harry Larner and David Larner and sister Clara Larner Handler. He was a life long member of Temple Israel, Albany City Lodge # 540 Knights of Pythias and a Hadassah associate life member as well as a member of the Albany JCC. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue in Albany, NY on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 11:00am. Interment will take place at Temple Israel Cemetery located on Western Avenue in Guilderland. The period of mourning will be observed at the Sperber residence, 14 Huntersfield Rd, Delmar, NY on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Duke please make a memorial contribution to Temple Israel, Albany Jewish Community Center or the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY. Duke's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany as well as all his caretakers, for the care shown to Duke and the entire family.
