Obituary of Mary G. Barnet

_ Mary Gunst Barnet , 95, born in New York City and a longtime resident of Albany, died Tuesday February 21, 2012 at her home. She was the beloved and devoted wife of William Barnet 2nd, who predeceased her. She was the daughter of Laurence Baruch Gunst and Charlotta Lesser Gunst. Surviving her are three children: Carol Barnet Fuchs (Alan), William Barnet III (Valerie), Laurence Gunst Barnet (Wendy) ; Grandchildren: Douglas S Fuchs (Diane), Daniel A Fuchs (Julie), Lauren B Frantz (Robert), Caryn B. Mutchnick (Aric), Jeffrey A. Barnet, Mary Rebecca Barnet, William Barnet IV and John G Barnet; Great-Grandchildren: Rachel, Zachary, Ava, Alexis and Samantha Fuchs, Arianna and Claire Frantz; and her sister Eleanor Gunst Barnet Oppenheimer, her brother-in-law David Oppenheimer, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barnet was a graduate of Julia Richmond High School and Skidmore College. She was a homemaker, active community volunteer, served on many boards, and took pride in her leadership role in activating the Home Aide Service of Albany (now Eddy Homecare of Eddy VNA.) She and her husband Bill shared a keen interest in the Sponsor-a-Scholar program on whose board she served. A memorial service will be held at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany at 12:30 PM, Thursday, February 23rd, 2012. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends following the service at Beth Emeth and Thursday evening after 7 PM at the VanCortlandt Room at Beverwyck Retirement Community, 40 Autumn Dr., Slingerlands.
