Obituary of Pauline Tanzman
PAULINE TANZMAN
1919-2010
Pauline Tanzman, age 90, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness. Pauline is survived by her sister, Martha Strongwater, her children, Rosanne Horn, Hal Tanzman (Judy), Jay Tanzman (Victoria), and Bonnim Tanzman (Ris), nine grandchildren, Jonathan Tanzman, Glenn Tanzman (Jody), Erin Duffy (Kevin) and Jacob Tanzman, Michael Tanzman (Sheila), Jennifer Feldman-Tanzman (Patrick), Brooke Tanzman, Jessica Tanzman and Sheera Tanzman, and nine great-grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler, Sylvia, Nathan, Kaden, Madelyn, Anna, Julia, & Cody. She is predeceased by her husband, Nathan Tanzman (z"l) and by her 5-day old great-granddaughter, Violet Olivia Feldman-Tanzman (z"l).
Pauline graduated from Hunter College with a nursing degree and was a nurse instructor in New York City until 1944. She met her future husband, Nathan Tanzman at The Tanzville Hotel and married him on March 6, 1943. She moved to Parksville, NY in 1944 where she and Nat ran The Tanzville Hotel in Parksville, NY until 1984. She and Nat moved to Albany, NY in 1993 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Pauline's greatest joy was her family and, until she was no longer able to, every child received a beautiful hand-made sweater. She eagerly looked forward to each and every family event.
In the last few years of her life, Pauline was lovingly cared for by Cathrona South, who became a part of our family when she arrived to take care of Nat Tanzman (z"l) and then stayed on to take care of Pauline. There was a special bond between Pauline and Cathy and there were times when only Cathy could comfort her. We are so grateful for Cathy's devotion and love to our family.
