Obituary of Sylvia Setless

Sylvia Sparber Setless, age 94 of Mt.Pleasant Avenue in Troy, NY died on Thursday morning, July 8, 2010 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy surrounded by her loving family. Born in NYC, Sylvia resided in Troy most of her life. Prior to her marriage she worked in NYC as a dress designer. She had been employed in food service at the former location of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Troy for 10 years. She was later the proprietor of the Campus Blouse Bar, a clothing shop in Troy, which was located on Third Street, later becoming known as Sylvia's. She also had a store in the Troy Plaza. After her retirement she went to work for the Rensselaer County Senior Citizens Center in their kitchen. A job she very much enjoyed until the age of 92, and often said to her family and friends, "I make meals on wheels and food for the old people". She was a member of Temple Beth El in Troy, and was a life member of the PTA in Troy and Syracuse, NY. She was also a member of Hadassah and B'nai B'rith Women. While Sylvia was employed by Renssealer County she was their oldest employee. She was married to Morris Zalman Setless until his passing in 1967. Loving Mother of Steven Setless and his wife Ibado of Syracuse, NY and Sheryl Phillips of Troy, NY. She also leaves her daughter in law, Susan M. Setless. Cherished grandmother of Rebecca Lee Martel, Mitchell Zachary Phillips and his fiancé, Danielle Grethel, Craig Matthew Phillips, Marc Scott Setless and Carla Stacy Setless. Great grandmother of Mason Zane Martel, Lara May Martel, Faith Brielle Martel and Eli Setless. Sylvia was predeceased by her loving son, Jeffrey Jay Setless and her sister, Evelyn Mayer. Services at Temple Beth El, 411 Hoosick Street in Troy on Friday July 9, 2010 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Beth El Cemetery in Troy, NY. In lieu of flowers those wishing to remember Sylvia in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, Community Hospice of Renssealer County, 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144. or a charity of your choice. Sylvia's family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Samaritan Hospital. A special thanks to the 5th floor staff as well as Richard Orsi M.D. for the kindnesses shown to our family during our mother's illness. .
