Obituary of Daniel Strichman

Schenectady - Daniel M. Strichman 84 years of age, passed away at home Tuesday morning June 8, 2010 with his wife Lee and his family at his side. Born at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady on July 1, 1925, he was the son of Adolph and Sarah Strichman. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother George and his sister June. The family moved to Troy during his childhood, and he graduated from Troy High School. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on an ROTC scholarship, graduating in 1947 from RPI with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Navy at the close of World War II. He worked for Albany Designing for several years before moving to General Electric where he worked for over thirty years, first in the turbine department and then at the Machinery Apparatus Operations. He retired in 1986. He enjoyed boating and camping with his family on the islands of Lake George. He alway had a smile for everyone and took a lot of joy in his family. His family and friends appreciated his dry sense of humor. He volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels, and as a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. He was a founder and organizer of a monthly retiree luncheon for GE MAO and for Troy High School reunions. He was a member of Agudat Achim Synagogue. Daniel is survived by his wife of 59 years Lee Estelle Flecker, his three children, Sherri, Michael (Nancy), and Steven (Maureen) and his two grandchildren Dillon and Tara. Services at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street Schenectady on Friday June 11, 2010 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the Agudat Achim Cemetery in Rotterdam. The period of mourning will be observed at the Strichman residence, 1108 Ardsley Road in Schenectady on Sunday and Monday evenings commencing at 7:00pm with a minyan service each of those evenings at 8:00pm.
