My most sincere condolences to Mr. Swartz and his entire family in the loss of Goldie, a wonderful classmate, a gifted teacher, a firm friend and a credit to our Alma Mater. Our whole class, the Class of 1951, was enriched by her huge smile and enthusiastic classroom presence. The scholarship you founded will live on and continue to both enrich the lives of needful students and also reflect credit on our Class. We've lost a fine lady. Jacquelyn Gavryck, '51 Class Counselor

I never met Goldie, but I have known Mark & Iris for several years now. Being an "outdoors" person myself, I was struck by her bio published in the paper. I think it's great how Goldie was so into health and exercise, and how she continued to bicycle with Howard even after the loss of his eyesight. I also enjoy long walks and hard exercise. Being from Saratoga Springs, NY, I have enjoyed many musical and cultural events at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and I took classes at Siena College in Loudonville, NY. It's possible that Goldie and I attended the same concert or play. Even tho we never met, I sense that Goldie enjoyed her life and her family. It's wonderful that she set up the scholarship fund at SUNY Albany. I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope that joy and loving memories will soon replace your sadness. God bless the Swartz family.

Dear Howard, I was stunned to see that Goldie had passed away yesterday. My deepest condolences go to you and your sons, Mark and Barry and their wives, Iris and Karen and your grandchildren. It is a loss to everyone who knew and loved Goldie. I was remembering my first visit with you both at your beautiful home on Longboat Key in February of 1993. You welcomed me warmly and I heard about Goldie's years as a student at the State College for Teachers and her early teaching experiences in Rensselaer. Your establishment of a scholarship at UAlbany provided a wonderful resource for students with disabilities and has benefited students over the years. On behalf of our University family, I extend our sympathy to you at this sad time. Goldie's memory will live on through the scholarships that will help students succeed in their college studies and begin their career and life path.
