Obituary of Gertrude Sperber

ALBANY Gertrude Sperber, of Albany, died peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Born in Coney Island, N.Y. on June 24, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Tillie Schwartz. She married Abraham Sperber on October 18, 1936 and was his devoted wife until his passing in 2008. Gertrude graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn and worked as a bookkeeper throughout her life in Brooklyn and after coming to Albany with her family in 1962. She was very active in the PTA in Brooklyn and as a polls worker in Brooklyn and Albany. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah in Albany and a member of Temple Israel for 48 years. A happy and gregarious person and a devoted wife, parent and grandmother, she used all of her loving energy for that purpose. She will be missed by friends and family alike. Survived by her sons, Mark (Linda Forenzo) Sperber of Colonie, N.Y., Lewis (the late Merle Schaffer) Sperber of Albany; grandchildren, Joshua Sperber of Loudonville, N.Y., Eric Sperber of Albany, Michael (Megan Austin) Sperber of Fairport, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Edwards of Albany and Violet Merle Sperber of Fairport. Services will be held in the Chapel at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, 180 Washington Avenue Ext. on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 11:15 a.m. Interment will follow in Temple Israel Cemetery, Guilderland. A Shiva Minyan will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2010 in the Founders room at the Daughters of Sarah.
