Obituary of Bernard Silverman
COLUMBUS, OHIO
SILVERMAN
Bernard A. Silverman, 91, of Columbus Ohio and former long time resident of Albany, died on April 18, 2010 in the presence of his loving wife Sarah of 63 years and his loving son Howard Silverman. Bernie was born in New York City on November 7, 1918. He graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School in 1936 and New York University in 1940. He entered the service in March 1941 in the first draft and served in the United States Army for the entire duration of World War II rising to the rank of Lieutenant . Bernie was the co-owner of the Paragon Paint Corp. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Albany City Lodge 540 and a member of Temple Israel in Albany for many years. Bernie was a devoted husband and father and valued his family very much. He enjoyed puttering in the yard, bowling and was an avid fan of New York sports teams, especially the Yankees.
In addition to his wife Sarah and son Howard, Bernie is survived by his daughter in law, Janet, grandchildren Mark, Heather and Jason and great granddaughter Hailey. He is also survived by his sister Muriel and brother-in-law William Marin, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Sophie Silberman as well as his brother Albert (Leah) Silverman and sisters Rose (Hy) Drucker and Dorothy (Harry) Metz.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany, NY on Tuesday April 20, 2010 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Independent Benevolent Cemetery in Guilderland, NY.The period of mourning will be observed at the home of William and Muriel Marin, 6 Dalton Court in Delmar, NY on Tuesday following the service of interment and on Wednesday and Thursday. Those wishing to remember Bernard in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Parkinson' Disease Foundation or a charity of ones choice
