I was shocked and saddened to learn of Merle's passing today. Merle was a great person who I always enjoyed seeing and talking with. I admire her strength and courage and I'm so sorry we all lost her to this terrible disease. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Lewis and Michael. We will miss Merle immensely.

There are family members to which we are related by blood and families who come to us through love, common bonds, and sometimes, merely fate. Such was Merle, her beloved Lewis and Michael, to our family. We were lucky enough to have had the Sperbers as our neighbors for all to brief a time, many years ago. They remain member of our family and the loss of Merle is like having a major star fall from our constellation. Merle was one of the most loving, most thoughtful people we have EVER known. We had the most wondrous glimpse of the love affair between Lewis and Merle when they celebrated their 25th anniversary with a treasured ten day visit in our home. Though they had pledged their love to one another 25 years previously, it had not dimmed in the years that ensued. We know that to ALL of her bereft family members and fortunate friends who Merle leaves behind, this cruel loss will be forever felt. We extend our love and embrace you. Joanne and Jonathan<br>
