Rose Rosen Ziffer, of Schenectady, New York, died unexpectedly on January 23, 2010 at the age of 81 due to complications after heart surgery in Philadelphia, PA. A native of Albany, N.Y. Rose was married for 60 years to Philip Ziffer. In addition to her adoring husband, Rose is survived by her children: Larry (Flo), Ruth (Richard) and Jay, as well as grandchildren: Yosef, Dovid, Ariel, Elisheva, Daniel & Rebecca; and great-grandchildren: Daphna, Doron Yair, Avigail and Akiva. Rose is also survived by her brother, Hy Rosen of Albany and was predeceased by her sister, Mary Patlen. Rose was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School and State Teachers College (SUNY) in Albany, from which she received undergraduate and graduate degrees in education.
Rose was an active member of Congregation Beth Israel, where she served on the Congregation's Board of Trustees, Ritual Committee and Sisterhood. She was also a life member of Hadassah, and was a committed volunteer for the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York and participated in numerous other community affairs.
Funeral Services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 at Congregation Beth Israel, 2195 Eastern Parkway, Schenectady, NY. Burial will follow at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Abbotsford Road, Rotterdam, NY. Shiva will be observed at the Ziffer family residence. The family requests that contributions be made to Congregation Beth Israel in Schenectady, Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany, or the charity of your choice.
