Obituary of Barbara Allen

BARBARA R. ALLEN 1925-2010 Ravena, New York Barbara R. Allen, age 84 of State Route 143 in Ravena, New York died on Tuesday evening January 19, 2010 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Barbara was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Ellis and Fannie Rosenthal. She resided most all of her life in Albany and spent 10 years in West Palm Beach, Florida prior to her return to the Capital District. She was a graduate of the Milne School and was a wave during World War II. Barbara had been employed as a lab tech in the virus department of the New York State Health Department for 30 years. She was a long time member of Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany, a member of the Pythian Sisters in Albany and the Independent Benevolent Society in Albany. Barbara was a member and Past President of Abigail Lodge # 3 United Order of True Sisters in Albany and was a member of Palm Beach County # 61 of Abigail while residing in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was on the National Board of Abigail as well. She enjoyed playing mahjong and had also bowled in the Abigail Bowling League as well as with the Pythian Sisters League. Barbara was married to Mardy H. Allen until his passing in 1992. Loving Mother of Judy Goldman and her husband Martin of Albany, NY and Elyse Goodman and her husband, Gary of Ravena, NY. Sister of William Rosenthal of Queens, NY. Cherished grandmother of David, Joshua, Daniel, Melissa, Mackenzie, Lauren and Michael. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Rosenthal. Services at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany on Thursday January 21, 2010 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Independent Benevolent Cemetery in Guilderland, NY. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Judy and Martin Goldman, 20 Aspen Circle in Albany, NY throughout the week commencing at 1:00pm. Those wishing to remember Barbara in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Alliance for Homebound People, 16 Crimson Oak Ct. Barbara's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Hospice Inn staff at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany as well as Dr. Roberta Miller for the kindness and compassion shown to Barbara during her illness.
