LISA TRUB
1911-2010
Delmar, New York
Trub, Lisa. Delmar. Lisa Trub, age 98, passed away January 11, 2010, just 11 days before her 99th birthday, at the Good Samaritan Lutheran Health Care Center. She was born in Vienna, Austria on January 22, 1911, and was the daughter of the late Ignatz and Malvene Gorwitz. In 1939 she moved to the United States, living first in Boston and then in New York City, and finally moving to Albany in the mid-1960s. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Josef, her sisters Hertha Wedgwood and Trude Sher, and her brother Fred Gorwit.
In the late 1930's, at great personal risk, she was responsible for helping her entire family escape the Holocaust in Austria and come to America. Because of her extraordinary efforts, she was able to obtain her father's release from the Dachau concentration camp. He then joined the rest of her family, going to America, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Lisa was a wonderful and caring daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, and a cook of great reputation. For many years she was a hat designer for the legendary Lilly Daché, in New York City, the most famous milliner in the United States. Lisa was an extraordinary talented craftswoman, recognized for doing the most intricate hand work imaginable.
Lisa is survived by her loving daughter, Suzanne Clar (Lonnie) of Loudonville, her grandson, Alexander Clar, of Chicago, sister-in-law, Bernice Gorwit, of Boca Raton, Florida, and several nieces and a nephew.
Our family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Lutheran Health Care Center for the loving care they provided Lisa in her last years. The kindness and consideration of the entire staff will not be forgotten. And we deeply appreciate the comforting, compassionate help given so generously by the Community Hospice.
Following a brief graveside memorial, interment will be at the Beth Emeth Cemetery, Loudonville, NY. Donations in Lisa's memory may be made to the Good Samaritan Lutheran Health Care Center, 125 Rockefeller Rd., Delmar, NY 12054.
