Fay's celebration of life came to an end on Sunday January 10th 2010. She died peacefully and gracefully with her family by her side at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany, New York where she resided for the past 7 years. Fay was born in Rensselaer, NY in 1909. She and her beloved husband Joe "Daddy Joe" were married for 64 years before he passed away in 1986. Fay and Joe resided in Albany for most of their married life. After retirement, Fay and Joe enjoyed many happy years at their home in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida before moving back to the Albany area in the early 1980's. At that time they resided at the Ohav Shalom Apartments for their remaining married years. Fay was a longtime member of Abigail, Pythians Sisterhood, and the Independent Benevolent Society. She loved reading, cooking, playing Mah Jongg, cards and canasta with her girlfriends, and hosting a wide array of holiday dinners for family and friends. One of Fay's biggest joys was keeping track of the many adventures and achievements of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. No family member ever traveled without Fay's infamous blessing "Gai gezunt come gezunt." In May, 2009 Fay was recognized by the Today show for celebrating her 100th birthday. She was fortunate enough to enjoy this milestone with family and friends. Fay was predeceased by her husband Joe, as well as by her 5 siblings, Augusta, Max, Irving, Louis, and Jesse and their spouses. Fay is survived by her loving family including her daughters Harriet (Gardner) Lerner, and Sydelle (Lawrence) Rickman, her 5 grandchildren Cheryl Levine, Steven (Nancy) Lerner, Jill (Bryan) Gautie, Laura (Matthew) Hosford, and Wendi Rickman (Jonathan Broth) and 6 great grandchildren Joshua and Jodi Levine, Jennifer and Matthew Lerner, and Merrick and Phoebe Hosford as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated and caring staff at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home who all took such wonderful care of Fay in her final years.
