Obituary of Manuel Green

Dr. Manuel Green, 91, passed away at Glendale Schenectady County Nursing Home. He was a lifelong resident of Schenectady, NY, a graduate of Union College and Albany Medical School. Dr. Green proudly served as a captain in the United States Army in Fort Myers, Virginia. For many years, he worked as a general practitioner, caring for patients in his home office and making numerous house calls. He was on the staff of Ellis and St. Claires Hospital. In 1962, Dr. Green completed a residency in ophthalmology in Newark, NJ, and returned to Schenectady to practice ophthalmology for the duration of his long career. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and he was truly dedicated to serving his patients. He was a fifty-year member of the Schenectady County Medical Society. He was an avid reader and loved playing tennis. He was a lifelong member of Congregation Agudat Achim. He is predeceased by his first wife, Stella Kaplan Green, his brother, Albert, his brother, William who died serving his country in World War II, and his sister, Jeanette Brown. Surviving are his wife, Rita Schure Green, his brother, Myril, and his sister, Isabel Richter. He has four children, Rosamond Rabinowitz, Louis, William, and Jeanne Rosenkranz. He has two stepchildren, Mark Schure and Susan Schure Cohen. He has sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren living around the world. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care given by the staff of Glendale Schenectady County Nursing Home. Contributions may be made to Union College, Albany Medical College, Ellis Hospital and the National Yiddish Book Center, Amherst, MA. Funeral services will be held at Congregation Agudat Achim on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 2pm. Interment will follow in Agudat Achim Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
