Obituary of Morris L. Abramson

MORRIS L.ABRAMSON 1933-2009 Morris L. Abramson, 76, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on November 26 at Glendale Nursing home in Glenville after a long courageous battle with diabetes. Born in Schenectady to the late Harry and Anna Abramson. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Albany College of Pharmacy. After college he joined the navy and was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Quantico, Virginia. Morris married the former Lois Rudin in 1957, living a short time in Colonie before moving to Glenville. Commitment to community was a cornerstone of Morrie's character and pharmacy was his life. He was employed by the former Hall's Drugs, and was the co- founder of Glenville Pharmacy which he operated from 1960 until he retired in 2000. During that time he wouldn't hesitate to go out in the middle of the night to help someone who needed medicine. After retiring he continued with his community involvement by volunteering at the Schenectady Free Clinic. Other community memberships included the Pharmaceutical Society of NYS, a charter member of Glenville Rotary, a founder and past president of the Glenville Merchants Association and a founder of the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake School District Committee on Special Education.. Faith was central in his life as a member of Congregation Agudat Achim in Schenectady. From the generation of his grandparents to that of his grandchildren, Morrie made sure that Judiasm was central. Morrie felt at home on the basketball court; he was Captain of Albany College of Pharmacy's basketball team and was later inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Albany College of Pharmacy. After college he played on an adult league through the YMCA. He could be found many hours in front of the television watching sports. When he wasn't working, Morrie loved to take his wife to Broadway shows in New York City making sure that he always had time to eat at his favorite Carnegie Deli! Family meant everything to him. He was happiest when he was able to spend time with them.
