Obituary of Rose Shawn
Shawn, Rose (Rosalie), nee Heller, of Albany, NY, passed away on January 23, 2012, in Toms River, NJ. Born in Chicago, IL, she spent most of her life in Albany, NY, where she married and raised her family and was a member of Temple Israel and Temple Beth Emeth. She worked for the New York State Department of Health as the chief stenographer and private secretary to the State Commissioner of Health for 25 years. With her husband, Bernard, z"l, she retired to Lauderdale Lakes, FL, where she lived for 17 years, serving as secretary, vice-president, and president of her condominium and working as a volunteer tutor at Fort Lauderdale Prep School. When she moved to Teaneck, NJ, to be near her children, she continued to serve as an English tutor to foreign students at Fairleigh Dickinson University until she moved to the Rose Garden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Toms River, a nursing home built and named for her by her son, Andrew, the owner and director.
Predeceased by her husband of 51 years and by her brother and four sisters, she is survived by a sister, Diana (Deena) Siskind of Tinton Falls, New Jersey; three children, Rita, of Vestal, NY; Karen (and husband, Keith Breiman), of Teaneck, NJ; and Andrew (and wife, Donna), of Oakhurst, NJ; two granddaughters, Jill and Ashley; two grandsons, Alex and Brandon; two great granddaughters, Lauren and Julia; and 19 nieces and nephews.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow in the Workmen's Circle Cemetery in Guilderland, NY.
