I just found out about this from Rich Orson and couldn't believe it. In the 12 years I worked at Quinnipiac, Irwin was one of the most valued conversationalists in the lunchroom. He was intelligent, well-spoken and could talk about any subject under the sun. I think most of all, we will miss his sense of humor - I know I'll think of him every May Day. This is a loss that Quinnipiac couldn't afford.
I will always remember Dr. Beitch as an outdoors man. I can remember taking a walking tour of the "Sleeping Giant" with him and the Sleeping Giant organization. I also remember his stories of a trip he took to the Galapagos Islands. He definitely enjoyed his life and the life all around us.
Dr. Beitch as a special mentor of our class. I remember him rolling with our class humor and creating assignments in the photography class centered around our sarcastic comments (Sears catalog poses). I have found younger classes who have not believed this; but he actually made tea and made sure there were tins of hard candy available during our exams! He also hosted at least one gathering at his house for us. He was a major contributor to our memorable times there.
As one of the many grad students fortunate to study histology under Dr. Beitch, I always felt he was unique in how he could impart his passions onto his students with anecdotes, wild gesticulations and even the 'correct' pronounciations of his fellow scientists. Even if the student didn't particularly care for the subject, he/she walked away from that experience with a better understanding and appreciation for the material. Count me as one of the many he inspired to learn as much as I could--I still to this day correct anyone who says PAS as 'periodic acid Schiff' versus 'Per-Iodic acid Schiff'. My wife and I, both QU PA grads, offer our thoughts and prayers to his surviving family and friends. Dr. Beitch will be sorely missed.....
Dr. Beitch was an intelligent guy with a great sense of humor, . .I learned a great amount of information after having him as an instructor at QU for the Pathologists' Assistant program. I remember a halloween costume he told us he was going to wear, . .very funny. I'll never forget him.
Irwin and Barbara just joined many in our family for a birthday celebration on the Hudson River. We shared poems and Hai Ku's. I thought it would be fitting to write one for Irwin.
"A Good Bye Hai Ku"

How good to see you.
Together on the Hudson.
May you rest in peace.

Our love and sympathy,
Andy, Martha, and family

I had the pleasure of having Dr. Beitch as a professor at Quinnipiac University. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. His incredible gift to teach made my senior year unforgetable. I know he will be handing out cough drops to friends where ever he is...
