Bernard M. Pearlman, 92 of Enumclaw, Washington formerly of Albany, NY died on Sunday September 27, 2009 in Enumclaw. Bernard was the son of the late Ida and Philip Pearlman. Born in Newburgh, NY on February 10, 1917, he resided in Albany for over 60 years. He was married to Sylvia Miller for 50 years until her passing in 1992. He worked for over 40 years at the Williams Press and Argus- Greenwood Companies. Bernie served as the treasurer of the Little League and Babe Ruth League and was also a Cub Scout and Boy Scout, scoutmaster. He was a life member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge # 540 in Albany where he especially enjoyed volunteering to assist at the Special Olympics. He was a past member of Temple Israel and Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob, both in Albany. He was also a member of the Independent Benevolent Society in Albany. Bernie served in the US Army during WWII in the 45th infantry division. He took part in Battles in North Africa, Sicily and Italy and was awarded 2 Purple Hearts.
He is survived by his sons, Howard (Susan) Pearlman of Hopewell Junction, NY and Philip (Shirley) Pearlman of Enumclaw, Washington. His grandchildren, Joshua, Aaron and Allison, also survive him. His brothers, Lou and Sam, and sisters Rose, Dot and Freda also predeceased him.
His favorite saying was " What can I do to help". He spent most of his life living up to the mantra.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Thursday October 1, 2009 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Independent Benevolent Cemetery in Guilderland, NY.
