Obituary of Sara Mayer

SARA EPSTEIN MAYER 1917-2009 MAYER Albany, New York Sara Epstein Mayer, age 92 of Albany, NY formerly of the Ohav Shalom Apartments in Albany died on Thursday morning September 10, 2009 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Sara was born in Old Town, Maine and resided in NYC for several years, later moving to Schenectady where she was educated. She had been residing in Albany since 1941. She had been associated with the family business, Mayer Photo Service in Albany and was later employed as a saleslady for Honigsbaums and retired from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in 1979. She was a member of Temple Israel in Albany and volunteered there for many years. While residing in the Ohav Shalom Apartments she served 3 terms as President of the Tenants Association. Sara was also associated at one time with Senior Travel and Tours. Sara was the loving wife of Herbert David Mayer until his passing in 1979. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Helene Herskovitz and her husband Bob of Loudonville, NY and Barbara Cohen and her husband Howard also of Loudonville. Sister of Rozanne Kinkow Neiterman of South Yarmouth, MA. Cherished grandmother of Scott Herskovitz, Rori Tamagna and her husband Nicholas, Todd Herskovitz and David Jeremy Cohen. Cherished great grandmother of Braden, Avery and Sawyer Tamagna. Sara will be remembered by all who knew her for her warm and loving smile. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Sunday September 13, 2009 at 2:30pm. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, NY. Those wishing to remember Sara in a special way may make a memorial contribution to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road Albany, NY 12205. The period of mourning will be observed at the Cohen residence, 10 Willo Lane in Loudonville, NY on Sunday following the service of interment and on Monday through Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9pm.
