Obituary of Barry Swire

BARRY SWIRE 1926 - 2009 ALBANY Barry Swire was born to Nathan and Rose Swire on January 21, 1926 in Albany, N.Y. and was a lifelong resident of the City. He died during the evening of August 16, 2009 at St Peter's Hospital after a long illness. Barry was the husband of the late Sylvia Swire (nee Levine) and is survived by his sister, Marcia (Leon) Feltman; sister-in law, Reva (Edwin) Swire; his children, Leslie Weinbaum (husband Paul), Neil Swire (wife Gail) Andrea Swire, Gary Swire (life partner Jeff Temple); grandchildren, Shiri Sondheimer (husband Jonathan), Ilana Weinbaum, Sara Weinbaum and partner in life, Roslyn Seidner. Barry was a star athlete at Albany High School and after serving in the U.S. Army Air Forces in Europe attended Syracuse University where he continued as a star football player and graduated with a degree in physical education. For over 50 years Barry owned and operated Reliable Upholstery a family owned business in Albany. He also taught upholstery techniques through the continuing education program at Albany High School. Barry was an avid tennis player, golfer and bowler often teaching and organizing tennis groups. Barry was also a life long member of Temple Israel. A graveside memorial ceremony was held on Monday, August 17, 2:00 p.m. at Temple Israel Cemetery, Western Ave., Guilderland. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Friends may call at the residence, 184 Hollywood Avenue in Albany on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-8 pm and on Friday from 10:00am to 12 noon
