Ida Rosen Greenberg, age 81, a 45 year resident of the Village of Colonie died on Thursday May 21, 2009 at the Hospice Unit at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY with her loving family nearby. Mrs., Greenberg was the daughter of the late William and Lena Rosen. She was born in Cortland, New York and raised in Oneonta, NY. She was a graduate of Hartwick College and received her Masters degree from Cornell University. Mrs. Greenberg taught elementary school for more than 30 years in Florida and New York and took great pride in her profession. She was associated with her late husband Arthur as well as her son Gary in the operation of the former Arthur's Pipe and Gift Shop on New Scotland Avenue in Albany and also owned and operated the former House of Brownstein in Troy, NY.She was a member of Congregation Ohav Shalom in Albany for nearly 50 years and was a supporter of the United Jewish Federation of NENY. Ida will always be remembered for her civic service as well as her grace and dignity.
She was married to Arthur Greenberg until his passing in 1983 and was the loving and devoted Mother of Gary A. Greenberg (Maria Walski) of Valatie, NY, Fran Columbus and her husband Robert of Guilderland, NY. She was the cherished grandmother of Eric, Rachael, Adam and Matthew and also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jack, Sam and Morris Rosen.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany, NY on Sunday May 24, 2009 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the Ohav Shalom Cemetery on Church Road in Guilderland, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia - Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY 12414 .The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Francine Greenberg Columbus and Robert Columbus, 8 Harmony Hill Road in Guilderland, NY on Sunday through Thursday from 3-6pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Ida's family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to Charles A. Johnson DO and Chris Jones RN, from Community Hospice of Columbia- Greene County as well as the ICU and Hospice Units staff at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson for the care and compassion shown to Ida and our family during her illness.
