Obituary of Milton Mendik

MILTON MENDIK 1932-2009 Slingerlands, New York MENDIK Milton M. Mendik passed away May 20, 2009 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, NY after a long illness. He was born September 12, 1932 in Manchester, England. Following World War II, he and his family came to the U.S. and settled in the Bronx, where he lived while attending High School. From 1951-1954 he served in the U.S. Air Force as a communications specialist, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, during which he was a forward air controller, providing communication between ground and air forces. After leaving the USAF, he married Sherry Dawn Stimmel of Queens, NY in 1955 and began a long career as a telecommunications analyst, working with such companies as IBM, Avis, Motorola, and MCI. He settled in Long Beach, NY, where he also served as a Special Auxiliary Officer with the Long Beach Police Department. He had been a resident of the Capital Region since December of 2000. He is survived by Sherry Mendik, his wife of 53 years; three daughters, Faith Mendik of Alexandria, VA, Patti Chien (Christopher), of Albany, and Fran Valensi (Dan), of Slingerlands; four grandchildren, Leah, Jessica, Jacob, and Hannah Valensi, of Slingerlands; three sisters, Clare Stone, Rita Button, and Norma Ornstein; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Viewing hours will be 2:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, May 24 at Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany with a service to be held at 5:00pm on Sunday following viewing hours. ) Burial will be Monday, May 25 at Knollwood Park Cemetery in Ridgewood, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to either Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, Guilderland, NY, Community Caregivers (2113 Western Avenue, Guilderland NY 12084), or St. Peter's Healthcare Services Foundation. The family will be sitting Shiva from Monday evening (5/25) to Thursday evening (5/28).
