Obituary of Irwin P. Sander
Irwin P. Sander, age 92 of Delmar, NY died on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Lutheran Home in Delmar. Born in the Bronx, Mr. Sander graduated with honors from the Stuyvesant High School. He later received his bachelor's degree from Washington University in St Louis and received 2 masters' degrees in Bacteriology and Civil Engineering from NYU. Irwin was a Navy veteran and served in the Pacific during World War II. He was a senior civil engineer for the NYS Thruway Authority, pioneering environmentally sound practices for clean water and waste management. He was a longtime active member of Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany. Mr. Sander was the Past President of the Schenectady Photographic Society and was an avid photographer. He also loved to travel and document his travels with his photography.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 44 years, Diana Sander. He was the caring father of Lynn Sander and her husband, Tod Sedbrook of Denver, Colorado, Cliff Hendler and his wife, Deborah Neipris of Bethesda, Maryland, Charles Hendler and his wife Kira of Buffalo, NY and Audrey Hendler of NYC. He was also the caring grandfather of Danielle, Emily, Micah, Reuben, Emma, Lily and Izzi. He also leaves his loving daughter-in-law, Kathleen Sander of Newton, Massachusetts. Mr. Sander was predeceased by his loving son, Mark Sandler.
Services at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road, Albany, NY on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville, NY
